If you are someone who was born with a naturally fast metabolism it can be very frustrating when trying to put on weight, as it seems that no matter how much you eat you just can’t gain any weight at all. It is kind of funny actually as most people who are fat would love to be in your position and they consider you lucky and blessed. You don’t see it as a blessing though, more a curse, as you want to pack on muscle but you can’t seem to do it. You can do it and you will do it if you follow the advice I’m going to give you.
Eat Smaller and More Frequent Meals
Many people state that you should eat three meals each day – breakfast, lunch and dinner. This might be ok for someone with a normal metabolism however for someone like yourself it’s not the best thing to do, as it’s hard to get all your calories in just three meals. It’s best then to eat every 3 hours, as you’ll find it easier to get your calories in each day, which means you wont have to force-feed yourself, and you’ll eliminate spikes in blood sugar.
You also need to make sure that each meal contains a mix of protein, carbs and fat.
Use Supplements But Don’t Make Them Your Crutch
If you are going to be using supplements then make sure you follow the instructions on the label, as it’s important that you use them safely and wisely. Also don’t get the idea that more is better. It seems that many people get the idea that if taking so much of a supplement helps than taking even more will help them get more results. This is un-true though as your body can only use so much of a nutrient and any extra will be removed from the body.
You should also be sure to remember that supplements are well supplements. There whole purpose is to supplement your diet, not to replace it. Make sure than that most of your calories are coming from solid food and not pills and powders.
The supplements you will get the most results from and I see as essential are creatine, whey protein and a multivitamin pill.
Compound Exercises Are Better Than Isolation
When many people put together their workout routine they like to do a lot of isolation exercises. Isolation exercises are those exercises that just work one muscle group, like the barbell curls, which just works the biceps.
Isolation exercises do have their purpose however most of your routine should focus on compound exercises like the squat and deadlift, which work multiple muscle groups. The reason they are important is because they add overall size and strength and release loads of muscle building hormones like HGH and Testosterone.
Create A Weight Gaining Plan
Before you get somewhere you need to actually know where you are going. That’s why it’s important to put together a weight gain plan. Your weight gain plan will be a write up of how much you would like to put on, when by and what you are going to eat each day and when and how you will train.
Having a weight gain plan will help you stay motivated and on track.
Get Sleep
Out of all the things you need to do to gain muscle I think this is the most overlooked because it’s the simplest and doesn’t require any effort on your part. It’s important though because muscle isn’t built in the gym, it’s actually built when you are sleeping. If you don’t get enough sleep then you wont end up growing.
As for how much sleep you should get each night, I recommend around 6 – 8 hours sleep is best. Any more and you’ll end up feeling lazy and like a bum and any less and you won’t grow.
